Meet the Candidates Before Election Day
You’ve probably seen the campaign signs all over Zanesville, and as Election Day approaches, it’s time to put those names with faces.
The American Association of University Women is holding a candidates’ forum. Organizer Helen Harper said the forum will present candidates for election to Zanesville city offices, including for mayor, at-large council seat and three ward council seats.
"The good news is that we usually fill that auditorium," said Harper. "People are interested in knowing what’s going on in our city. This year should be especially interesting, because it’s quite a turnover in offices."
The forum will not be a debate, and each candidate will have three minutes to discuss his or her platform. The public will then have the opportunity to present candidates with written questions. Harper said she encourages younger voters to participate.
"One of our little ploys is to send a letter to their teachers, and if they would like to give extra credit to students attending this event, there will be a teacher there who will sign whatever is needed to encourage them to get a little extra credit for learning more about how city government works," said Harper.
The forum will take place this Sunday at 2 PM at John McIntire Library.
