Premium Rates Increase for Muskingum Co. Employees

Muskingum County workers can expect to see some changes in their health plan in the upcoming year.

The renewal plan was presented to Muskingum County Commissioners this morning. President of the Forker Company Frank Dosch said employees will not see a change in their prescription or benefit plans but will see a 5% increase in premium rates.

"It’s a number the commissioners have been very sensitive to as far as trying to control the cost of employees," said Dosch. "The county is picking up 80% of the overall health insurance cost so it’s a very significant number for the company as well."

Other changes to take place will affect part-time employees, who will no longer be eligible for health benefits. Dosch said only employees working 30 hours or more a week will qualify. Another change is being called the "Spousal Rule," a working spouse with benefits available by another employer will be required to accept that plan as their primary insurance.

"The bright side, the glass being part full to speak, they didn’t get a change in their benefits, their deductible did not change this year," said Dosch.

The changes are scheduled to go into effect January 1st, 2012.
