Coin Tosses Decide Local Elections
Sometimes election results are too close to call without a recount, but when that recount produces a tie, one of the candidates still has to win.
The winners of three local elections were determined by a coin toss. Muskingum County Board of Elections Director Chris Hamill said Ted Crozier Sr. beat Rhonda Holdren for a Dresden Village Council seat.
"We notify each of the candidates by certified mail, so they have the option to come in and watch the recount take place," said Hamill.
The other two coin flips happened in Perry County. Sonya Saxton beat Becky King for Clayton Township Fiscal Officer and Robert Coleman Jr. beat Dick Boring for a Thorn Township Trustee seat. Hamill said the next item on the Board of Elections agenda is the primary elections.
"We had to re-draw the lines, and when those lines are re-drawn, there has been some discrepancy and a referendum against those lines, so the lines aren’t actually finalized, so we’re going to wait and have the two elections," said Hamill.
Hamill said the presidential and U.S. House primary will be held in June, and the other primary contests will take place a few months earlier in March.
