Families Flock to Christmas Tree Farms

The nice weather brought many families out to the tree farm to pick out the perfect Christmas tree.

Connie Fink and her husband Doug own a tree farm on Fawn Lane in Zanesville.  They harvested their first trees in 1991, and this year they expect to sell more than 100 white pine, blue spruce, douglas fir and canaan fir trees.

"You’re taking that tree and you’re cutting it off right then," said Fink.  "You’re going to take it home and hopefully put it up soon after you get it home, and you know exactly how long that tree has been cut."

Fink said many trees taken home for the holidays aren’t grown here in Ohio, and some of them are cut as early as October.  Amy Nern and her family are experiencing a fresh-cut tree for the first time.

"We used to have an artificial tree, and the kids got a little bit older, so I thought it would be fun to come out and cut our own," said Fink.

Fink suggests cutting a half inch off the trunk before setting it up in the stand to help the tree absorb more water.
