Child Support Roundup Successful
Local law enforcement are searching for parents who owe child support.
The Muskingum County Job and Family Services child support division held a press conference with the sheriff’s office and prosecutor’s office to announce the results of its annual roundup.
"We had 37 obligors that were in the roundup this year, and 28 of them actually appeared in court over the last two days," said Deputy Director Vince Durant. "They are responsible for 62 children in the community."
Durant said 17 of those who appeared in court were in compliance, an additional 17 cases are being continued and 7 bench warrants were issued. The agency targets parents who have had more than one opportunity to make arrangements.
"It is often not the goal to obtain incarceration but to make people responsible for children that they brought into the world," said Assistant Prosecutor Ron Welch.
Over $7,000 in unpaid child support was collected during the roundup.
