Transition to New Water Plant in Progress

Area resident may still be experiencing low to no water pressure as the transition to Zanesville’s new water plant continues.

Zanesville Public Service Director Mike Sims said the old location was turned off at about 2:40 Tuesday morning allowing water distribution lines to be tied to the new plant on Buckeye Drive. Those affected by low water pressure are in direct proximity of the plant and are being advised to conserve water.

"I would still encourage all users to moderate the usage tonight and throughout the day tomorrow to avoid any dirty water issues with laundry and just to help us conserve and to ensure we get this plant on line and get everything filled back up before we continue our normal use," said Sims.

Discussion of the new plant have been in the works since early 2004. Sims said the new location will provide a larger capacity and more pressure.

"The old plant, the building itself was over close to over a 100 years old, the last upgrade was in the 80’s the electrical system was shabby to say the least, we didn’t have any backup power if it did go down," expressed Sims. "We do now have a generator capable of running the plant at full capacity if we were to loose power and it’s just going to be much better for the entire city for years to come."

Sims advices that the city may experience a series of water breaks over the next week to ten days.

The following streets will be affected:

  • Lewis Drive
  • Mitchell Avenue
  • Neil Avenue
  • Carpenter Street
  • Buckeye Drive
  • Adamsville Road
  • Arter Lane
  •  Arthur Street
  • Wallwork Avenue
  • Howard Street
  • Russell Street
  • Granger Street
  • Coal Run Road

*Other customers may experience low water pressure or outages. The city is asking all customers to conserve as much water as possible on Tuesday.
