Food Baskets for Families in Need

Members of a New Concord church are doing their part to make sure everyone can enjoy a homemade meal this holiday season.

Volunteers at College Drive Presbyterian Church passed out 165 food baskets to families in need.  People took home chicken, potatoes, bread, apples and other items from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

"In our area, like the rest of Muskingum County, many of our families are unemployed, and the people who used to be contributors are now some of the clients," said volunteer Sue Bell.

The food pantry has seen an increase in clients over the last three years.  These baskets help parents provide a more traditional Christmas for their children.

"We had somebody come here a few years ago that got back on track, and they brought in a $600 check to give back to the pantry, so I think that says a lot about the community and the people we’re serving," said volunteer Charles Bell.

Volunteers are the reason the pantry is able to stay open, and about 35 people gave hours of their time to make Wednesday’s basket giveaway possible.
