ZANESVILLE:
James Wayne Caton, D.O. 87 passed away at 1:20 P.M. on January 30, 2014 at the Helen Purcell Home. Jim was born in Roseville, Ohio on February 23, 1926 to the late Wayne and Doris Brown Caton. After graduating from Roseville High School in 1944, Jim left for Pilot Training and became a B-24 Liberator Pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corp where he served our country during WWII in Europe. When the War was over Jim began his journey to fulfill his dream of becoming a physician. He attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, and Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Kirksville, Missouri. Medicine was his passion and he practiced in this area for 50 years specializing in Family and Aerospace Medicine.
He belonged to the American Medical Association, Ohio Osteopathic Association, Corinthian Lodge #111 F.&A.M. of McConnelsville, Valley of Cambridge, Syrian Shrine, VFW Post 1058, Zanesville Country Club, Trinity United Methodist Church in McConnelsville, Amrou Grotto of Zanesville, American Legion Post 24 of McConnelsville, and was a founding member of the American Air Museum in England.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Diana Eskey Caton of the home, a son Mark Caton of Thorsby, Alabama, a daughter Nan Rzasa of Columbus, Ohio, a step-daughter Deidre Smith of Lancaster, Ohio, a daughter-in-law Teresa Caton of McConnelsville, Ohio, Grandchildren: Matt Caton, Emily Caton, Kara (Jeromy) Searls, Caleb Caton, Elizabeth Rzasa, Christopher Rzasa, Christopher (Monica) Keirns, Alayna Smith, and Morgan White. Great grandchildren: Gavyn, Skyler, and Emery.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Sherrick, a son Matthew Caton and a step-son Jeffrey White.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W MILITARY ROAD. Services will follow at 1pm with Rev. Dawn Remster officiating. Militray Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 24 and Morgan County Veterans. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County Animal shelter 1500 Newark Road Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to the charity of one’s choice.
