Hughes Fred “Bud†Archer (September 20, 1936 – November 4, 2014)

Hughes Fred “Bud†Archer, son of Francis S. and Rosa M. (Hughes) Archer died November 4th, 2014 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus.
Hughes was preceded in death by his spouse of 27 years, Mary C. Archer (1944 – 1994). The couple have one child, a son, Bevan Archer of Las Vegas. By his side until he passed was Ann Jones of Newark, whose family and companionship he enjoyed for many years. He is also survived by many extended family members locally and across the country.
Hughes was an Educator/Coordinator with the Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School. Before that, he was with the U.S. Army, the City of Zanesville, and the USPS. He had degrees from various State Universities in Ohio.
He was recognized by the Ohio Contractor Magazine and Columbus TV as the number two graduate in a class of 62 Central Ohio overseers of Public Works projects in the 1960’s.
Hughes used the skills that he learned in his many varied occupations to volunteer with many organizations after he retired from running the Occupational Work Experience program at the Vocational School.
Hughes has donated his remains for medical research to the Ohio State University in Columbus. As such, no formal services will be conducted at this time. The family is arranging an informal gathering for those that wish to come together and remember him by sharing food, drink and stories at The Bryan Place at 49 N 6th St., Zanesville on Sunday the 9th from 1pm until 3pm. Please RSVP with a number in your party to HughMemorial@gmail.com by Saturday midday if at all possible. You can also share any memories or photos you have as well. Arrangements are being handled by Bryan & Hardwick Funeral Home in Zanesville.
In lieu of flowers, Hughes requested that donations be made to The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Fund in Cambridge, Ohio or to Catholic Social Services in Zanesville, Ohio. Or if you have time to donate, please visit those who are ill and wanting for companionship.
