Gerald D. “Jerry” Updyke (April 19, 1921 – January 31, 2015)

ZANESVILLE
Gerald D. “Jerry” Updyke, 93 of Zanesville formerly of McConnelsville, OH, passed away Saturday January 31, 2015 at the Helen Purcell Home. He was born April 19, 1921 in San Toy, OH a son of the late Lee and Mabel Link Updyke. Jerry was a graduate of Philo High School in 1939; served his country and protected our freedoms during WW II in the United States Navy as a Submariner in the Pacific, and was retired from Central Ohio Coal as General Mine Manager; and was a member of Grace U nited Methodist Church in McConnelsville, OH.
He is survived by his son Gerald Bruce (Karel) Updyke of Indianapolis, IN and daughter Linda (Jerry) Carroll of St. Helena Island, SC; one niece Barbara Eades of Newark, OH; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Alma Jean Boyer Updyke; two brothers Lee Jr. and Robert L. Updyke.
Calling hours will be held from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE, OH. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
