Donna Sue Randles (March 3, 1937 – January 31, 2015)

ZANESVILLE
Donna Sue Mallett Randles, 77, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born in Salesville, Noble County, OH on March 3, 1937 to Paul and Tillie Thompson Mallett. She attended Ohio University before matriculating to, and graduating cum laude from, Muskingum College in 1962.
Donna was a devoted and caring teaching professional for whom education was a calling. She began her career in Cambridge, OH, but spent most of her nearly 40 years as a sixth-grade teacher for Zanesville City Schools. She was a faculty member at Sheridan, Pioneer and Westview Elementary Schools before concluding her career in 2006 at Roosevelt Middle School. She embodied an understanding that education takes place in a nexus of teacher and pupil – an encounter of teaching-mind and learning–mind – and if you ask an adult about the impact of education on their life, most will tell you about a teacher. Donna Randles was “that” teacher to and for so many.
Donna’s devotion to her students was exceeded only by devotion to her family. She was also a teacher, guide and stay to them – the strong yet modest, fun and funny touchstone of a large and loving family. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey L. Randles, Steven G. Randles (Halle), and Lisa S. Randles Norris (Tim), all of whom reside in Zanesville; her grandchildren Justin W. Randles (Ann Marie Bradish), Paige M. Bierce (Ben), Hunter J. Riggs, Clare Randles Moore (Brent), Tyler Randles, Payton T. Norris (Katie Blemker), and Maya Norris, and great-grandchild Bentley Bierce. She is also survived by siblings Esther Carpenter (Herbert), Ruth Hastings (Hugh), and Duryl Mallett (Sue) and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her borther, Larry D. Mallett (Cathy).
Calling hours will be observed at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 2:00 to 7:00p.m. A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1:00pm with Mr. Bill Meaige officiating. Burial at Zanesville Memorial Park will immediately follow the service.
