Child Nearly Abducted

While walking alone just one block from her house a 10 year old girl becomes a target for a child abduction. Officials feel she was selected because she was alone and the man saw an opportunity. It happened Thursday on the Fifteen Hundred block of Bluff Street.

"A male driving a red pick-up truck pulled up to her. Said some things to her trying to get her into his vehicle. The man then got out of his truck and grabbed onto the girl" said Sergeant Ric Roush.

The girl kicked, scream and got away. She ran home and immediately told her parents what had happened. By doing this she helped police.

" Spoke to this girl’s mother this morning and one of the first things I told her is I explained to just how much we appreciate what her daughter did" said Roush.

Their daughter described an older man with grey hair driving a red extended back pick-up truck. At the time of the incident he was wearing a green jacket. The girl speaking up may have saved someone else.

"The worst thing would have been for this little girl not to tell anybody that this had happened and another incident happen later with another juvenile."

Children should be aware of what a child lurer may say. Officials say they hear do you want some candy? There is an emergency and help me find my pet.

Authorities have no leads and are looking for any information you may have.
