Local Boy Receives National Recogntion For Heroism

A local boy is being recognized nationally for his heroic efforts during last summer’s fatal school bus crash on State Route 60.

The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation announced Monday that  Shae Burkhart of Dresden is among 20 national finalists for the Citizen Service Before Self Honors.
 

Burkhart is being recognized for helping save several classmates after their Tri-Valley School bus crashed on June 2nd, 2010. 6-year-old Kasey King died in the accident.
 

The award recognizes and honors ordinary Americans who become extraordinary through their courage and selflessness.
 

A panel will select three individuals to receive the award which will be announced on March 22. A ceremony will take place Friday March 25 in conjunction with National Medal of Honor Day.
