Health Officials Waiting For Meningitis Results

The Morgan County Health Department is still waiting for results from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta in connection with two cases of suspected bacterial meningitis. One 21-month-old boy died and a two year old girl is now recovering at home after being hospitalized last week. Nurse Beth Cain says her office is still waiting for confirmation from the C-D-C on the disease. The two children had a common exposure while at a McConnelsville daycare center. Cain says the daycare passed inspection by the sanitation division of the health department early Monday morning and all people associated with the center received appropriate treatment and the facility is open again and taking care of children. Cain says no other cases of the disease have been reported to health department officials. The Ohio Department of Health says around 40 cases of bacterial meningitis are reported in Ohio every year.
