Fundraisers for Dresden’s Fire and Police Departments

Steaks were served and cakes auctioned off at the Dresden Fire Department Sunday.
For the 7th year in a row the Dresden Fire and Police Departments teamed up to raise funds for each department. The fire department started the morning off by serving around 350 baked steak dinners before the police department took over auction off cakes.
"People of the community have been very good to us," Dresden Police Chief Jeff Garver said. "We have like 47 cakes today. We have a lot of incentives to go with the, and we hope to have a really good day. I certainly appreciate all the donations and all the support we get from the community every year."
The departments started the joint fundraiser in 2008. While the fire department averages around $1,000 a year the police department brings in around $5,000 from the cake auction. Police Chief Garver said he’s not surprised by all the support.
"It’s a very good feeling to have them come, but it’s not unusual," Garver said. "This town rallies around about every need every time. It’s just amazing about how they come out. I’m very happy, very pleased i’m just not surprised that this many are here."
The fire department will use the funds raised for general maintenance and towards purchasing a thermal imaging scanner. The police department puts all money raised into its cruiser fund.
