Students Plan Meal For Christ’s Table

Tis the season for giving back. FFA and National Honors Society members from Mid-East Career and Technology Center took this to heart Sunday, November 23rd, as they prepared a potato soup dinner for Christ’s Table patrons.
100 pounds of potatoes, 30 pounds of carrots, 30 heads of celery and 15 pounds of onions were just some of the donations Mid-East students collected to prepare their holiday meal for the soup kitchen.
Kaitlynn Hodges, Senior at Mid-East, and project organizer stated,"Our FFA chapter needed to find something to do for community service and some of our newer members said, ‘Why don’t we make a meal for the soup kitchen, so I made some calls and Christ’s Table welcomed us with open arms to come and help them out."
The meal consisted of homemade potato soup, ham sandwiches, fresh fruit, salad and a bottled beverage. Students asked the staff and administration of Mid-East to donate the ingredients needed to make more then 100 hot meals. While the meal was the main event –the students also set up a holiday craft corner for kids.
"It’s so important to help out locally," stated Hodges. "Because not only does it make us feel good, but it makes somebody else who’s having a hard time’s life a little bit better."
