Last Minute Holiday Shoppers Out And About

Last Minute Holiday Shoppers Out And About

Thanksgiving is just a day away, and many shoppers were out and about buying last minute dinner items.

We made a visit to Riesbeck’s Grocery Store on Howard Street this afternoon. There is often a stigma of stress and cooking catastrophes attached to waiting to prepare the big meal at the last second. We got the chance to speak to Assistant Store Director Rodney Price who says they welcome the Thanksgiving Eve shoppers.

"It’s very busy but we have plenty of help so the people are not having to stand in line very long so, I mean, it’s kind of exciting. Kind of nice to have this business. It makes the day go fast and employees and everyone they’re really, you know, they’re geared for this. They’re ready for the holiday." Believe it or not, the turkey is not the choice item the day before the holidays. According to Price, the sought after food products are the bread items and odds and ends. We asked some of the shoppers to share their strategies of getting through the store quickly and got a range of responses.

"Put my head down and keep going through."

"Well, usually its having your focus, knowing exactly what you gotta get and trying not to get tempted by the good smells out of the bakery."

"Hurry up and go."

Price says an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 individuals walk the store the day before the Thanksgiving holiday.
