A 101 year old pipe organ takes the stage this Sunday at Central Trinity UMC’s 28th
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A pipe organ over 100 years old will be making music at Central Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC) for their 28th annual organ recital on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The 3 p.m. recital features James McLaughlin featuring duets with Marge Overdorff and 8th grade organ student, Connor Shields. The event will also feature a congregational sing-along.
“I first started this recital series when the church had spent some time and money to refurbish the organ. It’s actually 101 years old this year,” said James McLaughlin, the music director at Trinity UMC and the headliner of the event. “So a lot of people come to the recital just to see this old organ still ticking and the old guy that’s playing it too. But is had become sort of a celebration of music and a lot of music lovers in the community like to come to that.”

James McLaughlin plays the 101 year old pipe organ at Central Trinity United Methodist Church. He’s the music director for the church and will be performing at the 28th Annual Organ Recital on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m.
The recital will also offer people a chance to tour the pipe chamber of the 101 year old pipe organ, a fellowship meet-up afterwards with drinks and cookies, and an opportunity to support local musicians.
“And even though it’s a free concert we often give people to opportunity to pay it forward to other events. So we’ll have a freewill offering towards the Civic Chorus performing at Carnegie Hall, Dec. 1. of this year. Their second time to be in Carnegie Hall in New York City for performing Handel’s ‘Messiah.’ Which they do every year here. This year will be the 96th in Zanesville but this will be their second time to Carnegie Hall in New York City. So they have expenses to go New York and so it might be fun to help support that,” McLaughlin said.
