A Book Signing That Celebrates Local Culture

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Muskingum County has a rich history steeped in arts and culture.
A book authored by Jim Boyd titled Birth, Death and Resurrection of a Golf Course shares a story of 20th Century society in Muskingum County, which is illustrated throughout with the contributions of area artisans.
“We have a book signing coming up July 7th, 4 to 6 o’clock, at the OUZ Library in Herrold Hall on Newark Road,” Boyd said. “It’s a history book. There’s a lot of Zanesville history in there, there’s golf history in there, there is a lot of art that turned out to be there. Probably nearly a hundred images by local artists all together that many of them were created just for the book.”
Local Artist Mary Ann Bucci designed the book’s cover illustration and is impressed by the artistic incorporation from local artists throughout the book.
“My Brother asked me you know, to do this and I was so happy that he then thought, what about all the other local artists,” Bucci said. “There’s so many and very many of them have not been published. I’ve been published but a lot of them have not. And it’s a wonderful thing to have your work published. It’ll be in this book forever.”
The Tuesday evening book signing will feature an art display from many of the artists who have contributed to the book. Books can be acquired at the event or obtained through the Muskingum County Community Foundation for the cost of a donation.
