A local church asks for donations to help keep people warm this winter
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Good News Church in Zanesville is asking for donations from the community to help keep people warm this winter.
The church, located at the corner of Euclid and Forest Avenue, is asking for boots, coats, blankets, hats, and gloves to give away to those in need at a soup and sandwich meal the are hosting for those in need on Nov. 23 from noon to 3 p.m. Monetary donations can also be made which will go towards purchasing more warm clothing. Crystal Malone is the mission leader for this project and shares her motivation.
“What motivated me, from a while back, is that I knew somebody homeless. They needed a blanket and there was none available and it just touched my heart, that I wanted to be a part of that. To make sure that I can get as many people warm in this winter, you know, that I could,” Malone said. “…when we know how it feels to be cold or hungry, you want to be able to help those people that is in need of those things. ”
The Good News Church opened their doors in March of this year and Malone is happy to be a part of a congregation that is willing to provide food and clothing for those most at risk in the community.
“It’s awesome, because, you know, when you know the people you worship with has also a giving heart. And you know that’s what motivates them to realize how lucky they are, or blessed, to have everything like that because there’s many that don’t,” Malone said.
You can text or call (740) 487-0024 to arrange a pick up of warm clothes or monetary donations with Pastor Rick Sullivan.
