A new art show features local artists featured in an upcoming book

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A new art show opened its doors last night at Ohio University Zanesville, showcasing local history and art.
The OUZ Library will host the art show from now until July 31 and will show artwork featured in the upcoming book, “Birth, Death, and Resurrection of a Golf Course: Mangold Country Club to Zanesville Jaycee Public Golf Course.” The historical chronicle of the local golf course is a passion project by Jim Boyd.
“Well, I read a lot of books similarly about classic country clubs around the United States and I’m a public golfer, mainly, and I thought ‘Jaycee has a really good story.’ And I thought I’d just do a lot of research and see if it was worth a book,” Boyd said.
The book features artwork from 49 local artists that help illustrate the history told in Boyd’s book. During the art show’s opening reception, Boyd discussed how the artwork became an important aspect of the book.
“It was something we thought of last May because I pretty much had the book done. I’ve been working on it for two years and last May, as my sister (Mary Ann Bucci) was working on the cover, we talked about having more artists involved. And we just went out there and found that there were many who were interested in just donating their image of an original piece to fit the book,” Boyd said.
You can pre-order the book through the Muskingum County Community Foundation’s website and donate $50 to the Zanesville Jaycee Golf Course History Book Fund. The book is expected to be out in about three weeks.
