A St. Jude Sponsored Walk with a Twist
One man’s mission to remember his brother is putting a unique twist on a well-known charity walk.
The St. Jude Sponsored Walk for Danny Fraunfelter will take place Saturday, but this walk is unique in the sense that participants can walk wherever they want.
The event was organized by Fieldhouse Director, Jim Fraunfelter who was looking for a way to honor his brother, Danny, who passed away in December from Sarcoma.
Fraunfelter said his brother’s cancer started in his calf muscle and spread to his lungs, and eventually suffocated.
Jim reached out to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital to put together a walk, but wanted it to be different from the traditional 5k walks for charity.
"I contacted St. Jude’s right after that, and they finally gave me some information in January and said that they had some information on a walk, that could be a Zanesville, on the first Saturday in April, said Fraunfelter."
Participants are encouraged to walk at the Fieldhouse in the Sunrise Center, their hometown park or trail– even at home.
Fraunfelter said his brother’s church in Kansas will also be taking part on Saturday.
He hopes to raise $500 for the Memphis-based hospital.
"Basically that day on Saturday if you could just walk and in honor of Dan or anybody you know that has cancer and then 100% of the proceeds will go St. Jude’s in Memphis, Tennessee," added Fraunfelter.
