A used book and media sale helps a senior living center stay affordable

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – If you’re in the market for gently used books, CDs, DVDs, games and puzzles then Abbot Senior Living has you covered.

The non-profit residential facility is holding its final Book and Media Sale on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All of the proceeds go towards a fund that covers the costs for various activities for the residents.

“A big thing is prizes for bingo. We play bingo twice a week, so we have a cart with prizes on it that the winners get to choose from,” said Kevin Pinson, the executive director at Abbot Senior Living. “Sometimes we have cookouts. We take some of the movies, the DVDs we get, and we have movie nights downstairs so a lot of different activities that we like to fund. ”

Bring your own tote bag and for $5 you can fill it up with all the books and media items that that the bag can carry. Pinson says fundraisers like this help keep costs down for their residents.

“Well we try to keep the rent as affordable as possible for our seniors who are on fixed income,” Pinson said. “So, we do things like this to generate extra income so that we can cover expenses without relying on rent.”

The Abbot Living Center can be found at 1258 Greenwood Ave. For more information about Abbot Senior Living and their Book and Media Sale can be found on their Facebook page.
