A Young Man Keeps Moving Forward
A local man is making another stride in his personal journey this summer.
Zachery Hanf lost his left leg after a car accident in October 2012. He surprised everyone when he walked just four days after being fitted for a prosthetic. When AutoZone teamed with the Fieldhouse Foundation and United Way to open the People with Abilities Center (PAC) at the Fieldhouse, Hanf worked to take his recovery even further.
“The center gave me a place to kind of come and workout and really rehabilitate myself mentally and physically,” said Hanf. “It gives you a good place to come in and through working out doing all these things, biking, riding wheelchairs, that you really get better both mentally and physically and I think that’s what the center has done for me and other people. I mean I can’t count on both hands how many people I’ve seen come in here and leave a better person.”
The PAC opened in 2013. The center helps those that are left with a disability by providing a space to rehabilitate. After seeing Hanf’s dedication to his own resurgence, AutoZone offered him a summer internship, marking a new front in his growth.
“Not only do they provide this facility but they’ll even go as far to possibly hire you afterwards if you show potential so I think that’s it a good thing for the community and everybody involved with it.”
The PAC continues to serve those who are looking to rehabilitate and re-join the workforce.
