ZANESVILLE, Ohio- If you’ve been thinking about adopting a ‘fur-ever’ friend, Saturday may be the day for you.

The Clear the Shelters event is happening Saturday, August 19th as a nationwide effort to help find four-legged friends their forever homes.

As an added incentive the Animal Shelter Society will be waiving adoption fees for the day.

“Folks can come in, any animal that’s in the shelter, that’s available for adoption, there will be no adoption fees on Saturday,” said Jody Murray, Animal Shelter Society executive director.

The waived fees are made possible by the Jonard family who is sponsoring the event. The only fees that will be involved in the adoption process will be the county license fee of $10.75 for dog adoptions.

Murray encourages those interested in adopting to still take the commitment into consideration.

“We still want people to go through the same selection process. Remember that even though there’s no cost on Saturday, that it’s a long term commitment. Cats, dogs, pets can live 15 years or more, so it’s a long term commitment we still want to make sure it’s a good match,” said Murray.

The adoption event is from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is first come, first served.

*Update: The Jonard Family has agreed to also cover the cost of the county license fee for dogs. All adoptions on Saturday are now free of charge.
