Alveda J. Cannon VanHorn, 92, of New Lexington, Ohio passed away at 11:40am on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Altercare of Somerset, Somerset, Ohio.

Born September 5, 1933 on Lincoln Street in New Lexington, Ohio to the late Carl E. and Mary E. Grim Cannon.

Alveda was a member of the High Street Community Church; she had worked at Cannon’s Royal Blue Store for 20 years; State of Ohio Industrial Relations for 4 ½ years and VanHorn Motor Sales. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and Treasurer of the Perry County Fair Board; member of Carnation Chapter #167, O.E.S; Somerset white Shrine #5.

Alveda served on several church committees, served with NLHS Alumni Committee and was inducted into the NLHS Alumni Hall of Fame in 2011; Orange and Black Boosters and served with the Heart Association.

Survived by her step-children, Chester W. (Janice) VanHorn and Charles W. (Jane) VanHorn; siblings, Arlene Ellis, Linda Williams, Dale Cannon and Darelle Decot; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, preceded in death by her husband, Chester W. VanHorn, Sr.; sister, Rema Ferguson and brothers, Royce and David Cannon.

Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Monday, March 9, 2026 and from 10am-11am on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Sanford Short and Reverend John Kay officiating.

Burial will follow in New Lexington Cemetery, New Lexington, Ohio.
