America is Set to Celebrate 250 Years

Ohio 250

ZANESVILLE, OHAmerica will be 250 years old in 2026 and Ohio will be celebrating.

America250 is a multi-year nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in commemorating the 250th anniversary of our country from now until July 4th of 2026.

America250-Ohio Communications Director Chris Hurtubise came to represent America250 Ohio.

“Today we’re pleased to be here in Zanesville in Muskingum County for our Commision Meeting and we are the Ohio Commision for the US semi-quincentennial…well what does that mean,” Hurtubise asked.  “It means that in 2026 the United States is gonna be 250 years old on July 4th. And we’re Ohio’s commission to create the celebration and commemoration. This commission is 29 people coming together with folks from around the community to meet for our winter meeting and to prepare for that big celebration in 2026.”

America250 provides a valuable opportunity for everyone to reflect on our nation’s history while encouraging communities across all 50 states to envision a brighter future for the next generation. Muskingum County is actively participating in this initiative.

“We have a program called America250 Communities, and those are communities that pass a resolution and kind of raise their hand and say they would like to be an official America250 Ohio community. When they do that, they receive a really cool flag that they can fly from their flagpole, or put in their courthouse, or wherever they want and the nice thing is, it can be a township, a village, a city or a county. And so today in a little bit, you’ll see that we’re gonna honor some of those with a flag,” Hurtubise said.

Both Mayor Don Mason and the Muskingum County Commissioners proudly received flags during the winter meeting. Keep an eye out for upcoming America250 events, as the Muskingum America250 committee is diligently planning activities leading up to the grand celebration in 2026.
