Anchor Glass in Zanesville Closing
A longtime Zanesville company is closing and taking with it over 60 jobs. Anchor Glass Container at 1555 Fairview Road announced that it’s closing it Zanesville mold fabrication plant. It employs 69 people. Mold production is projected to cease by the end of November 2018. A mold engineering office will be maintained in the area. Anchor will provide transition assistance for affected employees in Zanesville. The company also announced that a machine repair shop in Streator, Illinois will also be closing. Anchor Glass says these moves will allow the company to focus its resources even more closely on its core business of making the highest quality glass containers. Zanesville Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director Matt Abbott says it’s very unfortunate to see a company that has been here so long, with highly skilled job, to be leaving. He says his office will help the effected employees in anyway they can.The glass company originally started in 1900 as Zanesville Mold on 3rd Street in downtown Zanesville. After the plant was destroyed in the 1913 flood, Zanesville Mold built a new facility on Muskingum Avenue where Weasel Boy is located. In 1988 the company moved to its present location with help from the Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority.
