Animal Shelter Society starts the year with a busy schedule

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – It’s an eventful start to the year for the Animal Shelter Society and it’s executive director, April Gibson.
On Monday, the non-profit organization will be recognized at the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund Breakfast as the 2026 award honoree.
“It’s so humbling to be recognized by our community, and you know, so many of our leaders to accept that. They said that why we were chosen was because that our mission aligned a lot with Dr. King and that says a lot. It’s just very humbling to be recognized by folks in a room and they appreciate what we do.”
The Animal Shelter Society is also gearing up for their annual Yappy Hour Fundraiser on March 5. The event takes place at the Zanesville County Club and features entertainment by Dr. Laura Shumann, and food prepared by local chef’s from the country club, Rake’s Place, The Barn, and Chef Steve.
“It’s our biggest fundraiser of the year as a 100% non-profit and taking care of over 100 animals, you know, that’s what we depend on. And, it’s hard to believe that it’s our tenth annual so, we are thankful. We’re looking forward to everybody being there. That’s one of our favorite things to do.”
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available through the Animal Shelter Society’s website and Facebook Page.
