Annual Emergency Management Agency Disaster Drill

Annual Drill Rc

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency hosted a table top disaster drill on Monday. Bo Keck, EMA Director for Muskingum County, said that they were presented with 3 different disaster scenarios and they had to evaluate each situation as if it were a real one. He also said this year they decided to set it up as a tabletop event where everyone is gathered together in one room to discuss the scenarios.

Keck said that they have a committee that’s in charge of developing the scenarios, but the State Emergency Response Commission has to approve of it and it has to contain a hazardous material incident.

All the emergency responders from Muskingum County were present along with other agencies that could be impacted by the disaster scenarios.

One of the modules from the event was a truck carrying oil and another carrying propane that collide together from another vehicle turning into the nursing home off of Adair Avenue. It is also near a small stream that then connects to the Muskingum River that could pose as a serious threat as hazardous materials could leak into the water.

Keck said that it was a realistic scenario considering the history of wrecks on Adair Avenue by the nursing home.
