Annual Knap-In at Flint Ridge State Park

GLENFORD, Ohio – Hundreds gathered over the weekend for the annual knap-in at Flint Ridge State Park.
The Flint Ridge knap-in consists of vendors from all around the area using historical methods to create American Indian tools, weapons, and more. Flint Ridge Site Manager, Tim Jordan said this is a great event that teaches you about history and tool making.
“Knap-Ins are occasions when people who practice the techniques similar to what ancient American Indians used to create arrow heads, spear points, drill bits, knife blades, a whole range of tools. They practice those techniques, make replica points, demonstrations for people interested in seeing how that is done and for people interested they even do a few workshops at these events,” said Jordan.
The three day event started Friday and ended on Sunday. Jordan said Flint Ridge State Park has a huge role in Ohio State history, and it is a fitting location for this event.
“The history here at Flint Ridge of human activity goes back 14 thousand years and this kind of activity, the flint knapping is what brought people to this area. One of my fellow guides likes to say Ohio history,” he said.
Jordan said the event has been going on for 20 years, and they look forward to keeping the tradition going.
