Annual Lace Up for Kids Helps Students Step into the New School Year

ZANESVILE, OH – Lace Up for Kids was back in action today at the Colony Square Mall, helping local students step into the new school year on the right foot.

Hosted by Eastside Community Ministry, the program helped more than 950 children gear up for the classroom. Students picked out brand new socks and shoes, new clothes, and even got free haircuts to ensure they’re ready from head to toe for the approaching school year.

“It’s just to serve the community so that every kid can have a brand-new pair of shoes and bookbag. We want everybody to feel great and like they’re starting on the same foot as everybody else.” Sally Goins, a Volunteer at Lace Up for Kids said.

Lace Up for Kids couldn’t be done without the more than 100 volunteers who spend all year buying shoes and clothes just to see kids smile on this special day. From tying laces to styling hair, they help make each child feel their best.

“My favorite part is seeing all of the kids as they go out with their new shoes. They’re always excited. This year, we’re here at the mall and they have done such a beautiful job with decorating and putting out special things. It’s really a big celebration.” Goins said.
