Another Ice Jam Discovered

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A new ice jam has developed north of the Village of Dresden extending towards Coshocton County.
The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency’s Executive Director Jeff Jadwin announced the ice jam was between Terrace Shores Sub-Division and extends to the south of the East Muskingum Road bridge also known as State Route 208.
“With the current conditions it’s not a real concern along the river until we start getting the ice melt, the snow melt and then it will become a problem for the area,” Jadwin said. “So our agency along with a lot of other local, state, and federal agencies are monitoring the situation and trying to make sure that we keep the citizens safe.”
Jadwin exclaimed the urgency of the situation depends on the weather. If the temperature increases rapidly the ice melt and potential rain will cause a rapid rise in the water and possible damage in structures.
“Next biggest concern would be that if a large portion breaks loose and it would happen to slam into the bridge abutments,” Jadwin said. “We’ll be watching that real close along with our state partners, making sure that there is no structural damage to the bridges.
People living along the Muskingum River need to monitor the river and stay tuned any for changes or alerts. Jadwin said the emergency information will be sent out through local media outlets and through the Everbridge Reverse 911 System. To sign up for Everbridge go to Citizensalert60.org.
