Arnold Schlater

Arnold Jay Schlater, age 67, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2024, after he lost his battle with cancer.
He was born December 19, 1956, to Cletus and Georgia (Hill) Schlater, and graduated from John Glenn High School.
Arnie was a true outdoor enthusiast and an undeniable amazing cook. He spent most of his time in the woods hunting or in a boat fishing. He was the most patient and loving father and husband a family could ask for. You could always find him on the sidelines of numerous sporting events and motocross races cheering on his true pride and joy, his children. Later in life, he didn’t wander too far from his front porch and garden where he enjoyed the company of his dogs Jack and June and his cherished wife.
Arnie was married 42 wonderful years to his wife Annette, and they raised two children, Race Schlater (Bailee Hampton) & Samantha (Wesley) Kanavel.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his three beloved grandchildren, Colt, Briar and Annie Kanavel; sister, Juanita (Rick) Steuer; brother, David Schlater; brothers-in-law, Tim (Janet) Archer & Dan (Annette) Newcome; sisters-in-law, Jodie (Mark) Pape, & Robin Archer; numerous nieces and nephews and cherished friends, Joe Botson, Billy Funk, Ron Lafferty, Steve Clark, Eric Jones, Todd Thompson, Travis & Julie Sterling and Glenna Cotterman.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Snurr and two brothers-in-law, Mike Snurr and Randy Archer.
Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street, Dresden.
A small service will be held at 7:30pm, Thursday, May 16, 2024, immediately following visitation.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Zanesville Ducks Unlimited, c/o Greenwings Program, 3808 James Ct, Zanesville, Oh 43701.
