Artist of the Month: Jenn Sands

ZANSEVILLE, Ohio- Zanesville Appalachian Arts Project’s artist of the month wants to bring appreciation to the hard-working women of the past.

Jenn Sands art focuses on the work nomadic women did to take care of their families and everything that went into keeping them clothed and sheltered.

“I guess the focus since I’m a woman, I became really interested in how much work women had to do to create the things that they owned and also to create food and everything,” said Sands. “And so it was basically a 24-hour job seven days a week just getting all these things prepared and clothing just took so long to make, that was kind of my main focus, how long fabric takes to make.”

Sands said that she had the opportunity to work with other local artists to create the show and that all of the artwork displayed was created with local materials.

“I’m really thrilled to get to display it, especially in Zanesville because all of the materials were found within thirty miles of Zanesville, so everything is local, which goes with the nomadic theme,” said Sands “And so it’s really nice to show my community what I’ve created, I’ve been working on it since the fall.”

The community can see Sands’s art at Z.A.A.P. during the First Friday Art Walk from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
