Artist of the Month: Pyrotechnika

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- This month’s featured artist is bringing a different flair to the Artist Colony of Zanesville.
Pyrotechnika is a fire and light performance group that is the featured artist of the month for the First Friday Art Walk this weekend.
Their featured performance plans to light up the event with a spectacle of a show.
“You will see fire that you sling around your head that ends up as little sparks, or big giant flames, or big streaking sparks and that can be pretty spectacular especially after dark,” said Pyrotechnika member, Stoey Stout.
The group of local performers will be showcasing techniques they’ve learned from their world travels through a fire show, LED light show and paint drum performance.
“We have costumes from Turkey and we have fire implements, part of which we’ve made ourselves, part of which we’ve bought from overseas as well,” said Stout. “There’s something primal about fire that touches people on a really deep level and I think that people will really enjoy it.”
The show is free and open to the public, though Stout recommends people bring their own chair. Pyrotechnika will have 10-minute demonstrations at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the full fire and light show beginning at 8:30 p.m.
You will be able to find them at the Freight Shops at 235 Market Street in front of Fringe Salon on Friday, September 1st.
