ZANESVILLE, Ohio–The Artist Colony of Zanesville switched up the usual artist of the month to an art gallery for January 2024.

The Zanesville Appalachian Art Project was started 30 years ago by a mayoral initiative. Now, it has over 90 members, and it has a permanent location on Main Street.

ZAAP Treasurer RoseMary Ludt says the organization will be showcasing art from the 25 members who joined in 2023 throughout January.

“Many of them stepped forward to show a bit of their art and kind of get their toe in the water regarding showing art and seeing sales,” Ludt said. “So we’re excited about that because we’re seeing new artists that we haven’t seen before.”

The gallery gives local artists a chance to learn and meet other artists in the community. Ludt says the ZAAP gallery is an essential part of the community.

“There’s not really any other gallery like us where you can for only $35 a year, become a member and show art all year long. You can possibly be a featured artist, you can come to monthly meetings and learn more and meet other people,” Ludt said.

The gallery is open from 1-5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and 5-8 p.m. on First Fridays Art Walks.
