Athern Sheets

Athern M. Sheets, 89, of Dresden, died Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.
Born December 4, 1935, in Dresden, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Mildred (Prince) Thomas and a 1953 graduate of Jefferson High School. Athern was a florist at heart. Over the years she worked for Imlay florist, Dresden Flowers and later opened her own flower shop, Richwood Flowers & Gifts. She was blessed with green thumb; she enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Rosewood Garden Club in Dresden. Athern was a lifelong member of Prospect United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer for the church for many years and socially active in the Dresden Senior Center. Athern was an avid card player, getting together with her friends, Sharon W., Dixie, and Sharon V. once a month to play.
Surviving are her three children, Charles Eric (Lori) Spiker, Kevin (Amy) Spiker, and Debbie (Rick) Green; eleven grandchildren, Chad (Mandy) Spiker, Daniel (Jess) Spiker, Missy Spiker, Ryan (Amber) Spiker, Elizabeth (Scott) King, Elaine (Lee) Wilcox, Emily (Paul) Moor, Erin (Ted) Seeley, Evan Green, Eli (Lauren Cox) Green, and Logan Spiker, seventeen great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Thomas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Dwight Spiker, her second husband, Kermit Sheets and two brothers, Lowell and John Thomas.
Family and friends may visit 5:00pm-8:00pm, Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Dresden Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 714 Main Street.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at funeral home with Pastor Chuck Glover officiating.
Athern will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Dwight, in Dresden Cemetery.
