Auction to Provide Scholarships to OSU Students

Area residents will get the opportunity to meet an Ohio State Football great on Thursday

Former All-American defensive lineman, Matt Finkes, will speak at the Ohio State Alumni Club of Muskingum County’s annual Spring auction. Each year, the club invites a speaker, and since the Buckeyes won the national title this year, President Terry Kopchak said the club wanted to get someone associated with OSU football.

“We’re looking forward to his football stories and of course talking about the national championship this year,” Kopchak said. “I know Buckeye fans, at least in their 30s and older are probably going to remember Finkes from the Rose Bowl Championship team in ’96-’97.”

Kopchak said the auction is also a great opportunity for people to help area students get to college. The auction raises around $5,000 each year, and all proceeds go straight to the club’s scholarship fund.

“Every penny that the OSU Alumni Club of Muskingum County makes goes towards student scholarships for both high school seniors going into Ohio State for the first time or students that have been up there for a couple years,” Kopchak said.

The auction starts at 5:30 Thursday night at the VFW on Putnam Avenue and will go on for about three hours. It includes a meal, a talk with Finkes and a silent and live auction. The event is open to the public with tickets costing $20 per person. You can get those tickets in advance at Tom’s Print Shop or at the door the night of the event.
