Auditor speaks at Noon Rotary

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The time for property reappraisal has come again.
Muskingum County Auditor, Debra Nye, spoke at Tuesday’s Noon Rotary meeting. She said the appraisal is mandatory for everyone in the state as per the Ohio Revised Code.
“The land appraisal is mandated by the state of Ohio, every six years we have to reevaluate everyone’s home and that is so there is a fair market value across the county,” said Nye.
After the values of the properties are set, Nye said they submit them to the state department of taxation. Upon the state’s approval, the public can then look at their values and dispute them if they feel the need.
“Once that’s approved then we open up our books as we call it to all the people in Muskingum County and they can look at their values,” said Nye.
Nye said if people disagree with the values that have been assigned they are able to dispute them.
“They can come in and talk to us and we actually will review their entire parcel with them and if need be we will go out and look at their parcel with them on site,” said Nye.
Currently, 18 other counties are also going through the reappraisal process.
