Bank robbery suspect may be responsible for other thefts

One man is in custody after a Tuesday afternoon bank robbery in South Zanesville, according to Muskingum County Sheriff officials.

Captain Jeff LeCocq says it happened around 1:00 at Community Bank on the Maysville Pike. The suspects name has not been released, pending formal charges, but LeCocq says he’s a local resident. Investigators say the suspect walked into the bank, next to K-Mart, handed a teller a note demanding money, and fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

“A description of the suspect was broadcast and an area search was initiated by uniformed and plain clothes deputies. Information was obtained regarding the location of the suspect and within 60 minutes of the robbery, one male was taken into custody,” said Captain LeCocq.

Authorities say the suspect was taken without incident. There were no injuries reported as a result of the robbery, and investigators do not believe a weapon was used. Captain LeCocq says the suspect may be connected to other theft related crimes in the area.
