Barbara Jean Friesinger

Barbara Jean Sheppard Friesinger, 103, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at The Oaks at Northpointe. She was born October 9, 1922, in Zanesville and was the youngest of eight children of Harry and Ella Stiers Sheppard. Barbara was raised on a farm on Pinkerton Road and attended McKendre School, which was a one room schoolhouse. She was a 1940 graduate of Lash High School. Barbara enjoyed golfing with her husband at Green Valley Golf Course, spending time outdoors, and line dancing at the Senior Center. She served as a volunteer at Bethesda Hospital and the Muskingum County Home; and also spent many hours visiting people at area nursing homes. She was a member of Zanesville Christian Missionary Alliance Church and the Zanesville Women’s Club.
She is survived by her children: Susan Moore and Eric (Marianne) Friesinger; a half-sister Glady Lemity; a daughter in law Wanda Friesinger; eight grandchildren: Adam Moore, Kandice Roush, John (Jenny) Friesinger III, Patricia (Pom Kim) Friesinger, Amy (Chris) Belk, Holly (David) Camma, Erica Thompson and Erin (Jon) Davis; 16 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several precious nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Harry and Ella Stiers Sheppard; she was preceded in death by her husband John Robert “Bob” Friesinger, who passed away in 2008; a son John R. Friesinger II; a son in law William Moore; siblings: Theresa Licklider, Virginia Synan, Robert Sheppard, Francis Sheppard, Betty Utsler, Rita Hartmeyer and infant brother Charles Sheppard; and a half-brother Fred Sheppard.

Calling hours will be held from 12 to 1PM, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Zanesville Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 545 Richey Road, Zanesville. The funeral service will begin at 1PM with Pastor Andy Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
