Barbershop Chorus to Perform during First Friday

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Y-City Barbershop Men’s Chorus has been a fixture in the community since 1979 and will be performing this Friday.

Y-City Barbershop Chorus Members Brian Morgan and Jeff Moore talked about their upcoming event as well as their participation in the community.

“We were invited by Mike Seiler of Seiler’s Studios on 7th Street.  Our quartet actually was performing at the studio there and he invited not only our quartet but also the whole chorus to come and sing a little mini concert at his studio. And that’s coming up here Friday, June 6th. That’s at 6 p.m. and  again it’s open to the public, there’s plenty of parking and it’s free,” Morgan said.

Attendees can expect a harmony of wholesome, family friendly music sung in acapella by the chorus members.

“What we do is we ring chords, we sing barbershop, which is a unique set of harmonies that I like to say tickles the ear because it’s just different than anything of any other kind. You can hear other kinds of four-part harmony, it’s just not quite the same without the barbershop chords. And why we do it is because we love doing it. We have a great fellowship, a brotherhood within the organization that just really uplifts each person,” Moore said.

You can experience the art of barbershop music during this Friday’s Art Walk, downtown. The performance will begin around 6 p.m. at Seiler’s Studio on 7th Street in Zanesville.
