Barnes Outdoor Advertising Celebrates 100th Anniversary Open House

ZANESVILLE The purpose of the open house was to honor the various dedicated clients and the several counties that Barnes serves.

President and Co-Owner, Mary Jane Shackelford, said that Barnes all began when her great grandfather Erwin M. Barnes moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Zanesville, Ohio back in 1916.

“He actually had a billboard plant there in Boston, so the family business is actually older than 100 years, but we have been in the Zanesville community for 100 years. We are here today just to say thank you to all of our customers, vendors, and to the community,” Shackelford said.

Shackelford said that they decorated the entire Barnes building full of historic photos and documents that tell the story of Barnes Advertising. They also had food from Rittberger Meats, Four Turns Bakery, and live entertainment at the event.

Shackelford also mentioned that this wouldn’t be the last celebration they have this year and that they are working on a few more events to come later on this year.
