After a recent string of purse snatching in Zanesville WHIZ spoke with a self defense instructor who realizes a few simple moves could mean the difference between life and death….

A Women’s Active Response Education- or AWARE- was first created by Third Degree Black Belts Brad Seward and Bob Hall.

"We want them to learn to block one time because we don’t want them to have the opportunity to hit them again," said Seward. "We want them to go at them with damaging force."

Through a series of courses women not only learn basic blocks that will fight violence with violence – but they learn tips and strategies to recognize their surroundings.

"If someone comes up and they ask for your purse, give it to them because that money is not worth your life," said Hall. "We teach you to throw it in a different direction, so when they start that direction you can get away and take off."
