Beloved Dr. Bijan Goodarzi Retires after Decades of Care
ZANESVILLE, OH – After nearly four decades of dedicated service, a beloved doctor in Zanesville is hanging up his white coat.
Dr. Bijan Goodarzi is retiring after 41 years in the medical field, including 38 years serving Zanesville and 15 years with Muskingum Valley Health Centers. January 30th, 2025, marks his final day in practice, a bittersweet moment for a doctor who has dedicated his life to women’s health and says he loved every second of his job.
“The retirement is bittersweet. All my life I’ve wanted to be a surgeon. I knew I wanted to be a surgeon since I was four years old. So, I’ve been working towards all of this, then all of a sudden today is my last day. It comes with a little bit of trepidation, as well as some excitement too. I’m looking forward to it but at the same time I’m sad,” Dr. Goodarzi said.
Throughout his career, Dr. Goodarzi has cared for countless patients and helped welcome many of today’s community members into the world. His impact on Zanesville families spans for generations, and while many consider him a local legend, he humbly sees it as simply doing his job.
“I’ve never thought of me being an ‘active player’. I’ve always thought of it as just, you know, you do your work. It’s like asking a fireman ‘how do you feel when you rush into a house?’ it’s just part of what we do. But it’s afterwards when you look back and go ‘oh wow,'” Dr. Goodarzi said.
While he may be retiring, Dr. Goodarzi says it was a privilege to care for his patients, and he will miss them dearly.
