Bernice F. Rarick, 88, of Zanesville passed away peacefully at Cedar Hill Care Center on
Sunday, February 16 at 5: 17 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was born on July 30, 1925 in
Zanesville. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Glenna Filkill Eppley.
Bernice worked at Timken Roller Bearing during WWII and then at Essex Wire for 42 years.
Following her retirement she became a Foster Grandmother at Bethesda and Good Samaritan
hospitals where she lovingly cared for many children in the Pediatric Unit for 12 years. She was
an energetic, fun-loving, caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great
grandmother and friend who, was always there for them. She loved to roller skate and taught
each of her children and grandchildren to skate and continued skating into her 70’s. Her last
roller skating endeavor was for her 88th birthday when Cedar Hill planned a Hearts Desire Party
for her and her family at the Lind Arena. With skates on her feet and the assistance of a
wheelchair, she was able to enjoy her passion one more time. She enjoyed traveling with her
daughter on Freedom Years, especially her dream trip to Hawaii, her many trips to Texas to visit
her family who lived there, and attending her grandchildren’s activities and events. She was an
active member of Coburn Church and enjoyed her Silver Sneakers classes at the Fieldhouse and
her Red Hat outings.
Bernice is survived by three daughters, Diana (Jim) McCloy of Nashport, Carol Bryan of
Burleson, Texas, and Bonita (Brian Lang) Klinehoffer of Zanesville; grandchildren, Jay (Ellen)
Brock of Zanesville, Jody (Curt) Stanley of Toboso, and Shawn (Marissa) Brock of Mason, OH,
Jim McCloy, Jr., Fabian (Monica Lopez) Saavedra of Albuquerque, NM, Dawn (Dean) Manry,
Scott (Kerry) Bryan of Texas, Pennie (Mike Adams) Bright, Juan (Tiffany) Klinehoffer and Jada (Kenny)
Robinson of Zanesville; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Blake, McKenna, Brooke and Braden
Brock, Dylan and Montanna Stanley, Cameron and Cooper Brock, Jessica, Joshua and Hannah
Manry, Justine (Fonzy) Bustillous, Dawson and Blake Bryan, Maddy, Gracie and Abbi
Saavedra, Dominic, Javier and Jen Lopez; Dakota, Danielle, and Lillie Bright, Orian Wright,
Cayden and Camden Brennan, and Ryley Klinehoffer; Great-great grandchildren; Julian
Gudino, Sadie and Samuel Bustillos; brother, Clayton Eppley of Newcomerstown; nephew,
Daniel (Nancy) Rarick; nieces, Cheryl Eppley and Marcia Eppley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Rarick, son-in-laws,
Danny Brock, Dave Bryan and Juan Klinehoffer, granddaughter, Jennifer McCloy Saavedra,
great-great grandson, Curtis Manry, and sister-in-laws, Ruth Rarick and Kitty Eppley.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday February 20, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday February 21, 2014 in the Snouffer Chapel with Rev. Dr. Dennis Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Stovertown Cemetery.
