Bicyclist Killed After Being Struck by Dump Truck
A bicyclist was killed in Coshocton County Monday evening after being struck by a dump truck.
Shortly after 4:00 p.m. dispatchers received numerous 911 calls in reference to the bicycle and dump truck accident at State Route 83 and County Road 271.
Upon arrival, officers from the sheriff’s office determined that 71-year-old C. Nelson Schlattter of Coshocton was northbound on Route 271 and was crossing State Route 83 when he failed to see the dump truck driven by 69-year-old William Smythe of Dresden that was westbound on 83.
Schlatter was pronounced dead at the scene. Â Smythe was not injured.
Coshocton County EMS, the Coshocton County Coroner, Three Rivers Fire, React and Coshocton Fire also assisted at the scene.
