“Birth, Death, and Resurrection of a Golf Course” second printing announced at book signing

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio University Zanesville Library held a book signing Tuesday with the author of “Birth, Death, and Resurrection of a Golf Course: Mangold Country Club to Zanesville Jaycee Public Golf Course.”
Author Jim Boyd was joined by community members and artists who helped contribute pieces to the book. Boyd’s work tells the history of Zanesville’s Jaycee Golf Course
“It’s exciting cause you never know. I was of two minds. No one would come, or too many would come, cause we still have about 20 books left as of a few minutes ago. And it’s like, what do you do when you run out? Though we do have plans, in about two weeks we’ll have more books in,” Boyd said.
Artists who contributed to the publication were given free copies as a thank-you for their art. 49 artists are featured in the book, which is available for a $50 donation through the Muskingum County Community Foundation.
“Some of these works are worth hundreds of dollars and they did them just to fit in the book. And they’re their art and it’s not like they’re doing something for a commission, like they normally do when they’re going to get paid. This is like taking a chance. They’re painting a picture of a golf course,” Boyd said. “Will somebody want that picture or building that doesn’t exist here in town? And I thought the least I could do was give them a signed copy of the book. I wrote them a message in there, how important they were to me. ”
