Zanesville Police Chief Tony Coury says an 8th grade student at Bishop Fenwick Middle School is in custody after bringing a steak knife to school. Coury says just after 12:00 pm officers were called to investigate the incident and found the knife in a student’s backpack. In a letter to parents, the Executive Director of Catholic Schools of Zanesville, Kelly Sagan said upon receiving the report about the weapon an administrator escorted the student to the office where he was interviewed by school officials and Zanesville Police. The student admitted to having a weapon in his book bag. Chief Coury says there was no threat made by the student and no one was hurt. Muskingum County Prosecutor Mike Haddox has determined that charges will be filed in the incident. The student is being held in the Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Facility.
